Mike and Carl from I Shot Him (ISH) were asked by the SF AIGA to make a piece of skateboard art for their annual Fall Gala. We thought it would be a lost opportunity to just make a flat illustration on a board. After all this was a chance for us to look as over the top as we feel sometimes. So we made “The Church of Frank” which is a made up religion of our own portrayed in a sculpture atop a deck. As one looks at the board you will see a church with a congregation that looks like people dressed up as birds. Frank (the character that doubles as ISH’s logo) is the preacher giving a message of freedom and bad-ass-ness. Frank is loomed over by a giant video screen playing his sermon (video below). Our favorite commandment is “drink heavily and drink often”. We had a great time making this weird thing and it seemed to go over well at the gala, as we handed out stickers people immediately said, “Oh my god, this is you guys? You did that crazy church ship thing. It was my favorite!” Picture this person as a super hot person too, and imagine them being really smart with good taste. HA! Well anyway, check out the whole process.
Come all to the Church of Frank!
Candace and Luna stopped by to make creations of their own. I think it turned out to be a drunk pumpkin. We have one track minds apparently.
Thank you for your time!
