If there are two things you should know about me, it’s that I love screen printing and I love drawing monsters. When I heard that Big Table Studio was having a Halloween poster show, I had to jump at the chance.
Before I start sketching, I generally write down a list of words that could relate to the project. It doesn’t matter if they’re boring or obvious, I just write down anything that comes to mind. You never know what might spark an idea. I’ll even write words down after I start sketching. In the sketch above, I drew the greaser wolfman and underneath I wrote Werewolf vs. Vampire. Not too exciting, so I ditched it.
After a few more sketches, I finally came upon something that excited me. I talk as if I discovered the sketch because sometimes the best ideas come from just putting pencil to paper. First, I drew the skull and the rest kinda grew from there.
Before I start working on the computer, I refine the crap out of my sketch. This ensures that the final piece is dictated by the concept and not the tools.
Here’s the final print! I had some fun with the ink because what good are ghosts if they don’t glow in the dark?
