Everything needs to be worked out before I start an illustration, must be the designer in me. Step one means getting my concept down on paper. Then, I figure out what kind of typography will accompany the composition. Layers and layers of re-drawing and re-scaling mean lot’s of penciled up tracing paper. When the composition is final and set, I trace the backside of the paper and rub it onto the watercolor paper. I use a Micron pen to outline the illustration and then use watercolors to fill in the color.

During the Masked Night of Debauchery, someone said something about renaissance men. I turned to Mike and told him of this illustration which I had started a couple of weeks previous to the night. It lead me to believe I had something going.
