Pushing through the crowds of the world’s most populous metropolitan area for the first time was an exercise in observation. Having a camera with me allows me to consciously remove myself from a large group of people and move into a space where I can blend in and take a look at what’s around me. In Japan I didn’t have to try very hard to become invisible.
