This weekend I shared photographs at the Our World Portfolio Review hosted by the San Francisco Art Institute. I wanted the work to be accessible for everyone I met and decided to produce a zine.
Any of you who have published know that spreads have to be sliced and re-positioned to align when the pages are assembled. This process combined partial photographs with others in a way I had never considered. Visual dialogue created in the chance combination of two halves exposed patterns in my shooting and subject matter that really spoke to me. I was surprised by the conceptual strength of each pair.
Listening to our work and learning from unexpected circumstances and outcomes is an important part of the creative process. I’m not sure how this lesson will manifest, but the process was a great reminder of voice.
