Doyald always stresses the importance of sketching by hand, at actual size. He advocates, “Examine the drawing as carefully as a mother examines her new baby.” This obsessive dedication to excellence in craft is plainly visible in his work. A Doyald Young logotype is as beautiful as it is legible, the pinnacle of greatness in his field.
These drawings, many of them just rough sketches, are scans from his book Dangerous Curves, Mastering Logotype Design. All Doyald’s books are classics, and unveil the mysterious process of a genius at work.
