The Black Harbor The Black Harbor is an online account of the work, ideas, and inspiration of a tight-nit collective of creatives. Over the years we have created things together, attended school together, fought together, and partied together. We have grown beyond the simplicity of friendship. We are now a family. Our purpose is to celebrates the work of the collective and explore creative work in the world that truly inspires us driving us to be better at what we do. Our hope is that as we document our work, process, lives, and inspiration that you will also be inspired and share your work with us.

Frieke Janssen’s Smoking Kids

I met Belgian photographer Frieke Janssens earlier this year in Brussels. She has been one of my favorite photographers for some time now. I made it a point to link with her to talk about photography (and Belgian beer) while we were both in town. We settled on a smokey Flemish bar just off of Place Sainte Catherine, where I met Frieke and her good friend Geert. We chatted over many pints.

    @ Dre, it’s clearly a project designed to provoke and insight discussion. You are absolutely entitled to your opinion, and I agree that this might not be everyone’s taste. But one of the many functions of art is to make people do things, say things, think things. Call it slop, that’s great, but it’s art all the same regardless of your value assessment.
