Sam Messenger’s work is hypnotic. The reference to science and naturally occurring patterns are recognizable but not over bearing. There is a certain humanness in his work. Maybe this comes from a touch of imperfection. Things are not perfect; there is some wiggle in the straight lines and the circles are not quite circles. One could very easily use a computer to draft similar shapes and forms but something would certainly be lost in the cold perfection of a machine rendering.
