Charley Harper was a Cincinnati-based American Modernist artist. He was best known for his highly stylized wildlife prints, posters and book illustrations. He’s kinda famous. He illustrated numerous books…The Golden Book of Biology…and magazines, such as Ford Times…as well as, many prints, posters, and he even created mosaics. As his subjects are mainly natural, with birds and fish prominently featured, he often created works for many nature-based organizations…like the National Park Service, The Cincinnati Zoo, Hawk Mountain Sanctuary in Pennsylvania, and he also designed interpretive displays for Everglades National Park. Harper believed that humor makes it easier to encourage change in our attitudes and awareness of environmental concerns. Enjoy.
Oh, one more thing…I grew up going to the Jersey Shore, not that shore that you see on tv, but a really nice one with a really nice bird observatory, in which Charley Harper was a fan of…he also designed poster for it…so, check out the birds, become a member (www.birdcapemay.org) and support jersey;)
