Music videos are the poetry of the film world. A full length film has the ability to explore an entire narrative, much like a novel. Like a novel a movie will tell a story from the beginning to the end where a poem will give you just enough imagery so you can fill in all the narrative/visual holes on your own. In the small time it has it must be direct and concise, every line and every image counting. Patrick Daughters is my favorite video/commercial director. He reminds me that, as a photographer, the crossover into motion is inevitable. He’s got many great videos (particularly notable is the video for Depeche Mode’s “Wrong”) but this one, a collaboration with illustrator Marcel Dzama for Grizzly Bear members other project The Department of Eagles, I’m partial to.
